Tribes of the west coast: Totem clan
The tribes of the west coast came to Canada over 10 000 years ago! They included tribes such as these:

Haida
Tsimshian
Bella Coola
Kwakiut
Nootka
Coast Salish

Location
As you can see in this picture, the Tribes of the west coast clearly had the least amount of land. They were located on the west coat of British Columbia.
Government & Legal System
Only the tribes of the west coast were sorted into clans. These clans were called totem clans. The tribes of the west coast never managed to develop a democracy. Instead, their clans were ruled by wealth. Whichever clan had the most wealth had the most power.
Each clan had its own unique customs and cultures. For example, the Nootka were whalers. They would go into the ocean in 30 man canoes.
