Glooscap
Most of the Algonquin and Beothuk tribes believed that Glooscap was the first human to arrive on earth. He was a giant bronze-skin warrior who appeared on our planet one day, he had come from the sky. Glooscap was a half-god half-man. He had a magical belt with powers that he only used for doing good things. When he arrived on the earth he gave thanks to each of the four directions. The North, The East, The South, and The West. Then, Glooscap paddled in his canoe to the east coast of North America, where the sun rises every morning. When Glooscap arrived he transformed his canoe into a beautiful island. He called the island Uktamkoo. In the present day we call that island Newfoundland. Glooscap shot arrows at the trees and the first people emerged. He named these people the Wabanaki, which meant people of the rising sun.
